Review from hometheaterhifi.com

(10/19/2009)...Unfortunately I was too young back then to realize the quality of that component, or even recognize the name, and at some point that receiver was replaced with a much more generic, mass market model with newer features. Marantz is still one of the most well known companies in high end audio and video today, and is still putting out high end components that are aimed at people who value performance over bells and whistles...»read full review

Review from avrev.com

(11/01/2008)... The AV8003 is housed in an aesthetically pleasing chassis, with rounded corners and a clean front panel that features a large display window above a drop-down door.... Despite the plethora of features, the intent of the AV8003 is not to be a feature showcase, but rather to provide class-beating performance.... - The ability to receive network media, HD, XM and Sirius radio all in one unit is really sweet.... - The AV8003 can only handle seven external sources, not nearly enough for my main theater system. Set-up of networking capabilities can be complex for the non-IT-oriented consumer.... The networking capabilities are a nice touch and I would like to see them expanded...»read full review

Review from hometheaterreview.com

(02/12/2009)...Utilizing a separate processor and amplifier allows the user to improve the quality of equipment over that which is offered by most receivers.... This, theoretically reduces the cost and waste associated with upgrading your equipment.... The window is flanked by a pair of large knobs that control input selection and volume.... Looking inside one can see the heavy copper plated steel chassis with an enclosed torioidal transformer with all the parts carefully laid out to maximize performance.... This three zone processor also features more of the features that one might expect to find in a new surround processor including HDMI 1...»read full review

Review from avguide.com

(09/02/2009)...I have for some time been interested in preamps, and specifically multichannel preamps.... For about a decade I have assumed that the ideal music playback system would be multichannel. I figured that multichannel music would become a mainstream option.... And classical fans do have a good choice of MC SACDs. This review will tackle several key questions.... Or, said differently, it should be pretty easy to design a nearly perfect preamp and thus they should be readily available at affordable prices.... Your article lends some credibility to my earlier assertion. I can hardly wait to hear his reaction to it...»read full review

Review from hometheater.com

(10/13/2008)...If you choose separates, it means you never have to borrow a construction crane to hoist a feature-laden, mega-watt seven- or eight-channel receiver onto a tall equipment rack.... Separates do produce more wieldy physical packages. But the real two-box advantage lies in having separate processor and amplifier power supplies.... Additionally, having the amplifiers work in a less noise- and interference-polluted environment also benefits the user.... The chassis is one of the most expensive components of any electronic design. Obviously, separates double chassis and front-panel costs.... Separates should give you more performance for your money, but to remain competitively priced, they must give you less of something else...»read full review

Review from techradar.com

(08/16/2008)...This isn't surprising, as the two are owned by the same company and all but share office stationary in the UK. But what is surprising is the price.... While Marantz's offering doesn't quite go to Denon's nth degree features-count or absolute battleship robustness, the 8003s are no slouches in functionality, and at least frigate class...»read full review
